I purchased this book from Amazon before they lost their spine. It's a great read and a bargain price. A recommended read by a very experienced author.

04.11.11 Update. In response to the threats from Carter Ruck/McCanns and subsequent removal of her book from Amazon, Pat Brown has now appointed legal representation in her upcoming suit against the McCanns.
Ms Brown is suing the McCanns for libel and tortious interference with business.
I also bought it from Amazon before they pulled it.
ReplyDeleteI've sent them an email asking for an explanation and received this:
Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Did I solve your problem?
Anonymous, you got a lot more from Amazon than I did! They were all too happy to close my account despite asking them 3 times for an explanation. In the words of Thelma... they refused to discuss the matter! And I don't believe I'm alone. Seems they're more than happy to lose custom than answer the problem openly. No loss to me, I'll just buy my books elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteYes I also managed to download the Kindle version before it got Carter Rucked - I was surprised that Amazon would do this - they are a USA based Company. How come CR can change US law ? Maybe the Profile was a bit too near the Truth for comfort. I couldn't see any defamatory statements. I think maybe the description of Kate holding Madeleine for the last time was what caused the problem.
ReplyDeleteI also contacted Amazon by phone, their operator simply said it wasn't available after checking the title lol, wait for it saying it must be out of stock. (I do despair sometimes) obviously I pointed out it was an electronic book, which unless they had a clitch that erased only HER book they couldn't be out of stock.
ReplyDeleteI explained that is why I was calling for an explanation, she put me through to their marketing or legal department, who advised after my repeated insistence on an explanation that apparently there was a 'copyright' issue?
Copyright I said of what, surely not Kate McCann's book to which it makes reference, as is perfectly legal and acceptable in any kind of 'review' of an authors work?
I asked if this had been deemed correct by a court of law, as I could make the very same claim regarding Kate McCann's references to the official police files or the book of Sr Amaral in her book, would that be enough for Amazon to pull her account?
Was advised again that it appeared to be a copyright issue?
Seems in their rush to pull the book they forgot to get their story's straight.
I wonder what Pat was told in writing.
